Cecil Newton Appears to Have Attended BCS Championship Against Auburn Athletic Director’s Wishes

In light of Cecil Newton attempting to sell his son’s services to Mississippi State for six figures, Cam Newton‘s father has been forced to lay low at his son’s events.

He even missed his son’s winning Heisman Trophy ceremony.

Speculation as to whether or not he would be present in Arizona for Auburn’s BCS Championship had run rampant — until Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs declared that Cecil would not be in attendance.

Then, after the game, Cam was seen searching for his father in the stands, and he was later photographed hugging a man who is clearly his father, according to SportsByBrooks.

Auburn center Ryan Pugh also confirmed that it was Cecil.

“I wish I was up there with Cam and his dad,” Pugh said.

It seems difficult to justify Cecil being barred from watching some of his son’s greatest moments — past wrongdoings aside. What was he going to do? Solicit money from Oregon for Cam to blow the game?

Auburn was wrong to ban Newton from his son’s game, and though it may be controversial that Newton went against the school’s wishes, he was right to attend.
