The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team had to make an emergency landing while on a chartered flight on its way to Albany on Tuesday .
According to ESPN.com, the team was leaving Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, Mass., heading to Olean, N.Y., for their game against St. Bonaventure Wednesday evening when things got a little hairy.
UMass sports information spokesman Jason Yellin, who was on the plane, said that "smoke in the cockpit" caused the emergency landing about 15 minutes into the flight.
"Any time the pilot comes on and tells you there's going to be an emergency landing because of smoke in the cockpit and you can smell some kind of odor, it's a little bit concerning," UMass coach Derek Kellogg said.
"The pilot and flight attendants did really good job of letting us know what was going on and keeping everybody calm."
No injuries were reported.
