Venus Williams' Australian Open Dress Turns Heads Down Under (Photos) Venus Williams turned some heads at the 2011 Australian Open on Monday, but it wasn’t just because of her quick work of Sara Errani, whom the seven-time Grand Slam champion topped 6-3, 6-2.

It was also because of what she was wearing (or what she wasn’t wearing, depending on who you ask).

When asked after her match about her skimpy blue dress, Williams explained that it was an illusion design.

“The design, it really was an Illusion dress,” she said, according to AustralianOpen.com. “The illusion when I wear the nude shorts under. But at the last minute I decided not to.”

Last year, Williams wore nude shorts under a similar small dress, which caused quote a commotion in the tennis community.

“I just decided to wear the black [under shorts],” she added. “But, you know, it’s just about focusing on the dress and not anything else. I mean, I had black shorts under. But normally, it’s all about the dress because it has a mesh and a satin kind of material. Of course, it’s all sports gear, and it’s all about that zipper, too. A lot of the focus of the dress is the zipper.”

Last August, Williams’ ensemble caused another minor stir as she wore a black lace dress during a French Open match.
