Christina Aguilera Doesn’t Cost Gamblers Money, As Sportsbook.com Pays Both Sides in National Anthem Bet

The great national anthem controversy of 2011 has a happy ending — at least for those who bet with Sportsbook.com — as the gambling website announced Monday that it would pay both sides winners for the national anthem prop bet.

The controversy stemmed from Christina Aguilera flubbing the lyrics to the "Star-Spangled Banner," thereby calling into question the legitimacy of the prop bet for the length of time the song took to sing. To avoid the controversy, Sportsbook.com is just calling everyone a winner.

Aguilera was very close to the over/under of 1:54, so bettors had a legitimate gripe regarding her botched line. Had she sung it properly, she'd have more than likely gone over.
