Here is a story that may have you scratching your head after you read about it.

Michael Vick received a key to the city of Dallas from Dallas mayor pro tem Dwaine Caraway on Saturday, ESPN.com reports.

"The message and the kids are far greater than all this response about, 'Why give him the key to the city?" Caraway told ESPN.com on Monday. "He is telling kids and exchanging with them the rights and wrongs of the things that he did and encouraging kids to further their education and to not deal with drugs. To obey their parents and pick the people they hang around.

"That's a message I would challenge anybody to say that not one kid across America shouldn't hear from people in notoriety such as Michael Vick."

Vick, who has been playing quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles — a rival of the Dallas Cowboys — since serving jail time for dog fighting, was confronted by local radio host Richard Hunter at the event. Hunter adopted one of the dogs saved from Vick's property and filmed the encounter with Vick and his entourage.

Dallas' mayor Tom Leppert told media that the city key ceremony was not official or sanctioned by the mayor's office. According to Leppert, the key can only be presented by the mayor or an elected official designated by the mayor. This ceremony is usually reserved for an elected official of international status.
