Report: Tomas Kaberle Tells Maple Leafs He Would Only Waive No-Trade Clause to Join Bruins Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle may be forcing general manager Brian Burke's hand. Or, maybe, something is in the works.

According to Sportsnet.ca, the 32-year-old defenseman would only waive his no-trade clause if Burke could work out a deal that would send him to Boston.

The report, citing sources, says that Kaberle has "granted the Maple Leafs permission to speak to only the Boston Bruins regarding a potential trade."

Of course, this isn't necessarily an indication that Kaberle has waived the no-trade clause. TSN's Bob McKenzie reports that Kaberle has not waived the no-trade clause as of yet, but McKenzie seemed to back up the Sportsnet.ca report by tweeting, "He has indicated to TOR he may look favorably on trade to BOS, but no commitment's been made."

And while some have pointed out that Burke may be hesitant to deal with the Bruins and GM Peter Chiarelli in the wake of the Phil Kessel trade, the Toronto GM has said that he is in talks with the Bruins.

"There is no barrier to that," Burke told 98.5 The Sports Hub on Tuesday's Felger and Massarotti Show. "There are no hard feelings, there’s no sense of 'Oh, we have to even the score somehow.' If we can make a deal with the Bruins that make sense for both teams we’re going to do it."

Kaberle has long seemed to be a logical fit for the Bruins, who are in search of a puck-moving defenseman before the trade deadline. In 56 games with the Leafs this season, Kaberle has recorded 36 points, with 33 of those coming via assists.

Kaberle would also help a Bruins power play that is currently situated in the middle of the pack in the NHL, ranked 16th in the league heading into Tuesday's game with Toronto. Of those 33 assists on the season, 21 have come with the man-advantage.
