Zach Hamill's latest stint in Boston is over.

The Bruins sent the rookie center back to the American Hockey League affiliate in Providence after Sunday's 4-2 loss in Detroit. Hamill was a healthy scratch on Sunday, but did appear in three games in his first recall of the season.

Hamill had one assist in the three games, matching his output from last year when he had an assist in his only appearance with the big club in the regular-season finale in Washington.

Hamill, 22, rejoins a Providence team in need of offensive help, as the P-Bruins lost both Hamill and Jordan Caron to call-ups in the past week. Hamill has 3-25-28 totals in 44 games in Providence this season.

Hamill also leaves having made a positive impression on Bruins coach Claude Julien.

"He made some good plays and that's what his game is all about," Julien said after Wednsday's win over Montreal, when Hamill helped set up a Michael Ryder goal. "He's a smart player and he's a great passer, he's always been known as a great playmaker and he showed some of that."

Hamill, Boston's first-round pick (8th overall) in 2007, may have also opened some eyes in other organizations, as his brief stint with the big club could serve as an audition to be used as a trade chip with the NHL trade deadline coming up on Feb. 28.

But for now in Boston, Hamill was caught in a numbers game with Tyler Seguin returning to the lineup on Sunday, Caron remaining up and Daniel Paille eligible to return on Tuesday after serving a four-game suspension.
