Boston College Taking Blame for NCAA Tournament Snub

The chances weren't great that the Boston College basketball team would make the NCAA tournament. Even so, they had a chance. On Sunday night, however, they found out that they would not be dancing this March.

Despite the initial letdown, the Eagles are taking full responsibility for what is ultimately a disappointing end to the season.

"We got what we deserved," said BC head coach Steve Donahue said on Sunday when addressing the media after getting the bad news. "We've got to work harder, we've got to do things better."

The Eagles were a bubble team for much of the season, but a disappointing ACC tournament, capped by a 23-point loss to Clemson didn't help BC's case.

When that same Clemson team was announced as a 12-seed on Selection Sunday, Boston College guard Reggie Jackson knew the Eagles were in trouble.

"The 12th seed, that’s the last seed for an at-large bid. I knew it was the season," Jackson said.

Like Donahue, Jackson readily admitted that in the end, the Eagles can only blame themselves.

"I believe it's all our fault," Jackson said. "UNC, they finished out strong but they didn’t necessarily handle the games people thought they would handle early in the preseason. From top to bottom, besides Duke, we all had some tough losses out of conference. That really hurt us."

Hours after missing out on the NCAA tournament, the Eagles were announced as one of the top seeds in the NIT tournament.
