Brandon Meriweather‘s lawyer turned over critical evidence Monday that should absolve him of any wrongdoing during a February shooting incident in Apopka, Fla.
Meriweather’s lawyer, Adam Swickle, told NESN.com it was “very, very clear that Brandon had nothing to do with the shooting” that occurred Feb. 28 during a fight at a house party.
Swickle employed special investigator Robert Crispin to open an independent parallel shooting investigation, and Crispin “was able to uncover critical evidence that absolves Meriweather of any wrongdoing,” Swickle said.
Swickle and Crispin met with the two lead investigators at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for about an hour Monday in Orlando. They turned over six sworn statements under oath from six witnesses who were at both the nightclub and the after party. Meriweather was at the party with about 30 people when the fight broke out.
Witnesses also saw another individual who was involved in the fight and had a small handgun he was threatening to use, and that individual is believed to be the shooter, although Swickle and Crispin are both continuing to investigate.
All six witnesses confirmed Meriweather did not start the fight, was not involved in the fight, did not have a weapon and did not shoot or discharge a weapon at any point during the incident, according to Swickle.
Swickle said Meriweather, “acted in a peacekeeping mission, trying to keep people from fighting regarding an incident he had nothing to do with.”
The investigation, “confirmed what we always believed, to be quite honest with you,” Swickle said.
