Just because the cameras aren't rolling for 24/7 doesn't mean Bruce Boudreau has quieted down.
With the Capitals in Montreal on Tuesday for a tilt with the Canadiens, the bench boss was asked for his thoughts on the fan-led protest that will take place outside the Bell Centre.
His answer wasn't what you'd call politically correct.
"Don’t come. If you don't like it, don't come to the games," Boudreau said, according to The Washington Post. "I think the players realize they could get hurt. They don't want to do it, but unless you've played and see what goes on at the speed of the game, you're not gonna be able to argue with it."
The protest, led by a fan who took exception to Zdeno Chara's hit on Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty, is inspired by the idea that fans like physical hockey but not dangerous and life-threatening injuries.
Boudreau expressed his belief that the motives behind the rally have more to do with concern over the home team than anything else.
"And listen, I don't want to get into any controversy," he said, "but if that was Hal Gill that hit David Krejci, I don't think there'd be a protest going on here today."
