Cam Newton Described as Horrible Human Being by Pro Football Weekly's Draft Preview

There’s been a debate raging for months about Cam Newton‘s abilities as a quarterback and whether he is worthy of a top-five or top-10 pick in next month’s draft. Certainly, there are aspects of his game that leave him open to football criticism, but Pro Football Weekly took it a step further — and then some.

The magazine released its annual draft preview this week, and CSNNE’s Tom E. Curran shared some of the “insight” that Nolan Nawrocki wrote about Newton.

“Very disingenuous — has a fake smile, comes off as very scripted and has a selfish, me-first makeup,” Nawrocki wrote. “Always knows where the cameras are and plays to them. Has an enormous ego with a sense of entitlement that continually invites trouble and makes him believe he is above the law — does not command respect from teammates and will always struggle to win a locker room. … Lacks accountability, focus and trustworthiness — is not punctual, seeks shortcuts and sets a bad example. Immature and has had issues with authority. Not dependable.”

Nawrocki deserves credit for doing his job to the fullest extent, but at the same time, the critiques read a lot like they were written by someone with a personal vendetta against the former Auburn quarterback. Nawrocki is supposed to share the information he has, but it’s always dangerous to say that a person will “always” struggle with something, particularly when that person is an immature 21-year-old who could very well mature rapidly in the NFL.

If nothing else, though, such biting criticism should only make the suspense that much more intense during April’s draft. If Newton goes through the Brady Quinn experience on draft night, he’ll likely no longer enjoy all those camera lenses surrounding him.

“Maybe this loss to the Pacers was due to a reoccurrence of that dreaded ‘tight butts’ syndrome that Doc R diagnosed or revealed after the loss to the Bobcats.
