WALTHAM, Mass. — Celtics forward Glen Davis had an MRI Thursday morning on his sore left knee. While no major damage to the knee was found, Davis will sit out for three to seven days to rest the knee and prepare for the playoffs.

Davis has played in each of the Celtics' first 59 games. Friday night, at home against Golden State, will be his first absence.

"It kind of sucks," Davis said after sitting out Thursday's practice. "I kind of wanted to play the whole season. I tried the best I can. Now I've just got to get healthy and ready for the playoffs."

Davis has battled knee pain this season, but the pain was aggravated late in the Celtics' win Wednesday night over the Suns when he went up for a dunk and landed hard on the knee. He limped off the floor and missed the game's final seconds.

"It's nothing serious," coach Doc Rivers said of Davis' injury. "He may be out for three, four or five days. But it's nothing serious. He's had tendonitis all year — he's been playing through that pain, and last night was just a jolt of pain."

Davis won't be available for Friday against the Warriors or Sunday night in Milwaukee. His plan for the next few days is simple — rest his legs, ice every day and stay in shape.

"Just staying healthy," Davis said. "We're going to need as many healthy people as we can get for the playoffs."
