The Red Sox carried a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning at Sarasota on Saturday. With one out, Jake Fox, a super utility type hoping to stick with the major league roster, hammered an offering from Boston righty Matt Fox (no known relation) to tie it.
The game ended in a 4-4 tie, which means nothing to the teams, but the blast could mean plenty to Fox. He is 6-for-12 with three home runs in just five games with Baltimore this spring.
Fox has played outfield, first base, third base and designated hitter in a career that has seen him play 166 games in the majors for three organizations. However, he is looking to catch on with the O's as a backup catcher.
