NFL Mock Draft V Sees Defensive End Da'Quan Bowers Taking Over Panthers No. 1 Pick (Page 3)
21. Kansas City Chiefs
2010 Record: 10-6
Needs: Tackle, outside linebacker, defensive tackle, wide receiver, center
The Pick: Baylor defensive tackle Phil Taylor
Previous Pick: UCLA outside linebacker Akeem Ayers, Wisconsin tackle Gabe Carimi
Analysis: It would be tough to pass on Carimi, but there aren't any other players in the draft like Taylor. Scott Pioli knows all too well what a dominant nose tackle can do for a 3-4 defense.
22. Indianapolis Colts
2010 Record: 10-6
Needs: Tackle, guard, defensive tackle, safety
The Pick: Wisconsin tackle Gabe Carimi
Previous Picks: USC tackle Tyron Smith, Mississippi State tackle Derek Sherrod
Analysis: The Colts would be very happy with Carimi, who is the third-best tackle on the board.
23. Philadelphia Eagles
2010 Record: 10-6
Needs: Right guard, safety, cornerback, outside linebacker, right tackle
The Pick: Florida interior lineman Mike Pouncey
Previous Pick: Wisconsin tackle Gabe Carimi
Analysis: This could be tough if Pouncey and Akeem Ayers are still on the board, but the Eagles won't have to work hard to market a guy named Pouncey in that state.
24. New Orleans Saints
2010 Record: 11-5
Needs: Defensive end, outside linebacker, defensive tackle, running back, safety
The Pick: Illinois defensive lineman Corey Liuget
Previous Pick: Alabama running back Mark Ingram
Analysis: After losing out on Ingram, who was the pick here for four weeks, the Saints would wind up with a legit consolation prize.
25. Seattle Seahawks
2010 Record: 7-9
Needs: Quarterback, running back, guard, center, safety, cornerback, defensive tackle
The Pick: Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith
Previous Picks: Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett, Texas cornerback Aaron Williams
Analysis: Smith was one of five brothers to play college football.
26. Baltimore Ravens
2010 Record: 12-4
Needs: Cornerback, right tackle, wide receiver, safety, inside linebacker, outside linebacker
The Pick: Miami cornerback Brandon Harris
Previous Picks: Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith, Texas cornerback Aaron Williams
Analysis: Harris would go to The U North, joining fellow defensive Hurricanes in Baltimore such as Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.
27. Atlanta Falcons
2010 Record: 13-3
Needs: Outside linebacker, defensive end, safety, offensive linemen, tight end, wide receiver
The Pick: UCLA outside linebacker Akeem Ayers
Previous Pick: Wisconsin defensive end J.J. Watt, Iowa defensive end Adrian Clayborn
Analysis: This is as low as Ayers has fallen, but the shakeup through the first round in this mock caused him to slide due to other team needs. If Ayers really slips into the mid-20s, it might force the Patriots to trade up to snag an outside linebacker who would be perfect for their system.
28. New England Patriots
2010 Record: 14-2
Needs: Defensive end, outside linebacker, tackle, guard, running back, wide receiver
The Pick: Villanova offensive lineman Benjamin Ijalana
Previous Pick: Georgia outside linebacker Justin Houston
Analysis: Ijalana figured to be able to play tackle or guard, which would make him a real asset during the Patriots' uncertain time with their offensive linemen. They might have to fill spots at right guard and right tackle, and Ijalana could play both positions.
29. Chicago Bears
2010 Record: 11-5
Needs: Tackle, guard, wide receiver, outside linebacker, defensive tackle
The Pick: Colorado tackle Nate Solder
Previous Pick: Mississippi State tackle Derek Sherrod, Villanova offensive lineman Benjamin Ijalana
Analysis: Something doesn't seem right about Solder. Maybe it's because he's 6-foot-8 and 319 pounds and only recorded 21 bench reps at the combine.
30. New York Jets
2010 Record: 11-5
Needs: Defensive end, outside linebacker, safety, wide receiver, defensive tackle
The Pick: Temple defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson
Previous Pick: Purdue defensive end/outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan
Analysis: Wilkerson could play along the Jets' three-man front, which would obviously give them some good depth at a couple of need positions.
31. Pittsburgh Steelers
2010 Record: 12-4
Needs: Right tackle, guard, cornerback
The Pick: Mississippi State tackle Derek Sherrod
Previous Pick: Penn State interior lineman Stefan Wisniewski
Analysis: Sherrod slid down the board in this mock, and he might project to have more upside than Wisniewski. At the very least, Sherrod plays at a more high-profile position.
32. Green Bay Packers
2010 Record: 10-6
Needs: Outside linebacker, running back, defensive end, guard, left tackle
The Pick: Penn State interior lineman Stefan Wisniewski
Previous Pick: Temple defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson
Analysis: The Packers are drafting for luxury here because they have very few needs.
33 (first pick of second round). New England Patriots
2010 Record: 14-2
Needs: Defensive end, outside linebacker, tackle, guard, running back, wide receiver
The Pick: Illinois running back Mikel Leshoure
Previous Pick: Baylor nose tackle Phil Taylor
Analysis: Leshoure, who will turn 21 at the end of the month, has the potential to really explode once he fully develops, and the Patriots can ease him into a rotation that will also include BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead. The rumor last year was the Patriots were ready to draft a running back in the second round, but that position went earlier than expected because the Chargers were so aggressive with Ryan Mathews. This year, Bill Belichick might not want to gamble and wait so long, and Leshoure could turn out to be a home-run pick.
Dropped Out: Purdue defensive end/outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan, Iowa defensive end Adrian Clayborn
