Patriots’ running back Danny Woodhead has always been proud to stick by his hometown roots, so he must be incredibly excited to be honored by the Nebraska state legislature.

Woodhead, who hails from North Platte, Neb., and starred at Chadron State College, has been congratulated by the Nebraska legislature on his outstanding achievements at all levels of competition in football.

Woodhead just completed his most successful season in the NFL, compiling 547 rushing yards, 379 receiving yards and six touchdowns during his initial year with New England. He was rewarded with a midseason contract extension that will keep him in Foxboro through 2012.

The Nebraska legislature also recognized Woodhead for finishing his high school career as the Class A all-time leading rusher with 4,891 career yards, as well as graduating from Chadron State with an NCAA-record 7,962 rushing yards. For that, Woodhead won two Harlon Hill Trophies, which is the Division II equivalent of the Heisman.
