Are You Still Optimistic That the Bruins Can Win the Series Against the Canadiens?Let’s be honest. Losing game one is never a good sign. In fact, it’s a fairly strong statistical harbinger of what’s to come — especially when it happens at home.

Still, though, Bruins fans have many reasons to be optimistic. One only has to go back one year to remember that the Bruins fell behind the Sabres 1-0 before coming back to win the series.

It should also be noted that a lot of uncharacteristic events unfolded in game 1 against the Canadiens. First of all, both netminders posted performances that won’t be repeated. It’s not very often that Carey Price will post shutouts on 31 saves, and it’s not very often that Tim Thomas lets in two goals on under 20 shots.

While the Canadiens did score twice, those goals came on two of their very few chances through the course of the game. One of them, in fact, came on an uncharacteristic mistake by Tomas Kaberle. On the other hand, the Bruins created a number of opportunities, but failed to convert. Brad Marchand couldn’t convert on an open-net chance, and the B’s completely dominated the second period.

Really, one could easily argue that the Bruins outplayed the Habs — the scoreline just didn’t show it.
