Daisuke Matsuzaka's Patriots' Day Gem Earns Him Amica Pitcher of the Week Honors Just when the critics couldn’t get much louder, Daisuke Matsuzaka pressed the mute button. The Red Sox’ fifth starter went out against a powerful Jays lineup this past Monday, throwing seven dominant innings in which he allowed just one hit, one walk and no runs.

That performance earned Dice-K this week’s Amica Pitcher of the Week honors, though he faced some stiff competition as the Sox staff began to hit its stride.

Daniel Bard registered 3.2 scoreless innings, and Jonathan Papelbon followed him up with three saves.

Jon Lester, like Matsuzaka, gave the Sox a gem, beating the Angels on Friday with six scoreless innings.
