Patriots running back Danny Woodhead has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Madden 12 cover bracket, and he is one of eight players remaining in the tournament.

Now, Woodhead will face his most difficult opponent yet: Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

Woodhead, who defeated Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson in the first round, cruised to a second-round victory against Giants wideout Hakeem Nicks, accumulating 57 percent of the votes. More than 300,000 people voted in that matchup.

EA Sports director of public relations Rob Semsey said Woodhead was "very excited" to learn he was representing the Patriots in the bracket.

"The perseverance and passion Danny displayed last season — from being cut by the Jets, to making an immediate impact on the Patriots — was impressive and embodies what we look for in a Madden NFL cover athlete," Semsey said. "Internally, our campaign slogan for Danny is, 'From cut to cover.' We considered a few different players on the Patriots, on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. New England has an amazing team, so there was no shortage of choices, to be honest."

If Woodhead defeats Rodgers, he'll match up against Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles or Browns running back Peyton Hillis in the semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, Saints quarterback Drew Brees is squaring off against Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, and Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is up against 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis.
