Josh Beckett Looking Like ‘Vintage Beckett,’ Thanks to Command of Full Arsenal of Pitches

It's been a couple of years since Josh Beckett was considered one of the very best pitchers in baseball, but so far this year, he's been back to his old self. He's 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA, and he's rattled off three straight starts in which he's lasted at least seven innings and allowed three or fewer hits and two or fewer runs.

NESN.com Red Sox reporter Tony Lee says most of the success can be attributed to Beckett's ability to command all of his pitches, something that was missing from his game last year.

"He's been fantastic," Lee said on Baseball Today on CBSSports.com. "His fastball has great life, he's thrown his cutter with effectiveness, his changeup's been remarkable. When you think of 'Vintage Beckett,' you think of a guy that drops in that hammer curveball, that knee-buckling curve, and he's been able to do that on a pretty consistent basis.

"He really has been the bright spot for the Red Sox early on," Lee added.
