In recognition of the early-season exploits of their new outfielder, dubbed "Super Sam," the Rays are holding a Super Sam Fuld Superhero Cape giveaway for the May 29 game against Cleveland at Tropicana Field.
The first 10,000 kids age 14 and under will receive the cape, which shows a diving Fuld behind a shield bearing his nickname. In a swap rather emblematic of the Rays roster shuffle early on this season, the promotion replaces a scheduled Manny Ramirez bobblehead giveaway.
Fuld, who came to Tampa Bay in the Matt Garza trade this offseason, entered Wednesday hitting .313 with an American League-leading six stolen bases. In front of roughly 30 friends and family members, he went 4-for-6 with a home run, triple and two doubles in the Rays' 16-5 rout at Fenway Park on Monday.
He needed only a single when he came to the plate in the ninth to become the second player in franchise history to record a cycle, but he took second on a line shot into left.
