Editor’s note: Fenway Park opened on April 20, 1912. NESN.com will be celebrating Fenway’s 100-year anniversary with unique content from now until April 20, 2012.

In 1916, the Red Sox had Fenway Park all to themselves as the Braves, Boston's National League team, began their first full season at Braves Field on Commonwealth Avenue.

Like the previous two years, the Red Sox were highly successful as they clinched the American League pennant and won their second consecutive World Series title by defeating the Brooklyn Robins four games to one. As they did in 1915, the Red Sox chose to play the 1916 Fall Classic at Braves Field, a larger venue than Fenway Park.

Despite the absence of baseball, Fenway remained busy in the fall. In September, the Odd Fellows held their first religious service at the ballpark while high school and college teams again took to the gridiron for football action.
