John Lackey’s Up-and-Down Start to Season Continues to Perplex

At times this season, Red Sox pitcher John Lackey was virtually unhittable. The right-hander rattled off a string of solid starts, giving fans reason for optimism. However, Lackey has done plenty to erase any sort of good vibes in a few starts as well.

Lackey did just that in his last start last week at home against the Angels. One day after the Red Sox played 13 innings in the rain in a game that went until 2:45 a.m., Lackey laid an egg. The Sox needed him to spare the bullpen, but Lackey did just the opposite, going only four innings in a blowout loss to the Halos.

It's been a confusing season for those trying to figure out Lackey. NESN.com's Red Sox reporter Tony Lee is one of those who have tried to figure out the right-hander. He was a guest on CBSSports.com's Baseball Today on Wednesday to talk about Lackey's inconsistency, as well as other topics across Major League Baseball.
