After more than 10 years as a general manager, interim head coach and television analyst, Kevin McHale will now get the chance to prove himself a head coach after he reached a deal Friday to become the next head coach of the Houston Rockets, Yahoo Sports reports.
After playing 13 seasons with the Boston Celtics in the 1980s and early '90s, McHale spent the next 16 years in the Minnesota Timberwolves front office, where his moves included drafting Kevin Garnett out of high school in 1995.
McHale also served two stints as the Timberwolves' interim head coach (2004-05 and 2008-09), and holds a 39-55 all-time record as a coach.
A three-time NBA champion and seven-time All-Star as a player, McHale was elected into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999, and his No. 32 is retired in Boston.
