The Patriots have taken this week off from their regimented, football-specific workouts in the Foxboro area, according to sources, and they'll return to action next week.

Defensive captain Jerod Mayo helped orchestrate the workouts in March, and they have included sessions in the weight room and on the field. Sources have indicated 12-15 players have been in attendance for the workouts, which have typically taken place three days per week.

The idea, obviously, is to stay in shape and push each other to work out as hard as possible, which could limit their injuries due to a shortened offseason schedule.

With Memorial Day weekend on the horizon, players usually break this week anyway to see their families or take a step back from football.
