Bruins Fan Sees Parallels Between 2003, 2004 Red Sox, 2010, 2011 Bruins, Creates B-elieve T-Shirt Editor’s note: NESN.com is asking Bruins fans to share their favorite Bruins memory. Dave McGrath from Worcester, Mass., shares this memory.

I think anything is possible if you believe in it enough. After watching the Bruins lose Game 7 in 2010, one of many thoughts came into my mind. It was, “wouldn’t it be perfect if the B’s won the Cup next year?” And I started believing it could happen. I thought back to the 2003 and 2004 Red Sox, and thought, “Why not the Bruins?”

On Sept. 12, thanks to my awesome Dad, I was able to take some laps on the FleetCenter (there was only one “Gahden”) ice. My friend Patrick came with me, and we were both giggling like little schoolboys moments before we took our first cuts on the ice. After a few laps, I wanted to make sure I got a picture of myself kissing center ice — a good luck gesture for the B’s in the coming season.

A little over a month later, I was lucky enough to score some tickets to the Bruins’ home opener against the Capitals. I wanted to make a special T-shirt to wear opening night (as part of my 365 T-shirts blog), and was trying to think of an appropriate T-shirt that made fun of Alexander Ovechkin.

Then, one night, I had an epiphany. The answer was not a funny, anti-anything T-shirt, but a positive, “Go B’s, this is the year” T-shirt. So I made an “I B-elieve” T-shirt, wore it to the home opener, and wrote about why I thought the B’s could win it all this year.

After the game, I saw Zdeno Chara and he was nice enough to sign a poster for me. I told him, “This is the year!”, and he looked at me with a strange smile. I told him to keep saying it, believe it, and it would happen.

I saw Tim Thomas and told him the same thing. I have my doubts that either of them remember these interactions, but I am happy to see they have been playing like they believe.
