NEW YORK — Dustin Pedroia has a bone bruise on his right kneecap and expects to rejoin the Red Sox in Toronto on Friday.

Pedroia left the team early Thursday morning to have a minimally invasive scope of his troublesome knee, which has been bothering him since last year but recently began to bother him even more.

He was seen by team physician Dr. Thomas Gill on Thursday afternoon. The exam revealed no structural damage.

Both Pedroia and Terry Francona insisted they felt that the knee would be OK, but wanted to get the test done for peace of mind. Francona said that the team has known about "a cartilage issue" for some time.

Pedroia is batting .247 with four home runs and 22 RBIs this year. He leads the team with 41 walks and is second behind Jacoby Ellsbury with 13 stolen bases.
