Even if Luis Suarez and Lucas Leiva miss preparing with Liverpool in the preseason because of the Copa America tournament, they won't be rushed back into action.

Steve Clarke, the first-team coach, said it's important that the players have recovered before they play with LFC, and the current LFC squad is large enough to accommodate their absences, Liverpoolfc.tv reports.

"It's up to the boys to go there and do their best for their countries," Clarke said. "When they come back we'll assess the situation, assess them fitness-wise, physically and mentally — then we'll decide how we fit them into our training schedule."

The Copa America tournament takes place in Argentina from July 1-24, and the Barclays Premier League campaign opens on August 13 and 14. Since the players will miss out on training with the team, they may not be as fit as the rest of the roster.

"We wish them all the best for their countries and we'll look after them," Clarke said. "It'll be up to us to make sure we put them in at the right time.

"The most important thing is they get adequate recovery time."
