Kevin Faulk a Surprising Attendee As Patriots Hold Casual Workout at Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Attendance grew during the second day of Tom Brady‘s workouts at Boston College.

Forty-seven Patriots were in attendance Thursday morning at Alumni Stadium, which is a few more than Wednesday’s total. The session lasted an hour and a half, and the players worked out in shorts and T-shirts.

Running back Kevin Faulk was the most surprising attendee. Faulk is recovering from a torn ACL, and he hasn’t said whether or not he’ll play again in 2011, but his presence Thursday was a positive sign in that regard.

“Everybody is trying to get back into it,” Faulk said after the session. “Nobody is ready to go [for a season] right now. That’s why everybody is trying to get back into it.”

Faulk, running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis, quarterback Brian Hoyer and linebacker Rob Ninkovich all spoke to the media after the workout. But as Hoyer was speaking, Brady walked by and said, “No media.” Brady then thanked everyone for showing up and walked away.

The practice was casual — slightly intense at times — but it resembled an offseason workout at Gillette Stadium. Players greeted each other before the session, stretched together, broke off into positional drills and then the offense lined up against the defense in seven-on-sevens and 11-on-11s. They worked on red-zone drills and two-minute situations.

Two highlights
Rookie quarterback Ryan Mallett threw a 65-yard touchdown strike down the right sideline to wide receiver Matthew Slater, and linebacker Jerod Mayo forced his defensive teammates to do pushups when they weren’t performing up to par.

“It feels great,” Ninkovich said. “Right now, everyone is kind of itching to get back on the football field. That’s a good thing. It feels good to be out there running around.”
