Tom Brady, Wes Welker Connect on Hail Mary During Charity Football Game

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — If achieving chemistry was the Patriots' primary benefactor of this week's workouts, Tom Brady certainly put the results on display Friday night.

While playing quarterback for his second annual Best Buddies charity touch-football game at Harvard Stadium, Brady hooked up with receivers Wes Welker and Julian Edelman for a handful of touchdown tosses. Granted, Brady wasn't exactly throwing against Darrelle Revis and the Jets, but he still put on a show for everyone in attendance.

The highlight came when Brady hooked up with Welker for a touchdown on a Hail Mary attempt before the half. Welker outran Edelman, who was the de facto cornerback on that play, and hauled in a perfectly placed pass for about a 50-yard score.

Again, without trying to overdramatize Friday night's events, it at least showed that Brady and his receivers could rekindle their rapport after three private sessions at Boston College.

"It's been fun to see a lot of the guys. I think there was a lot of good work," Brady said of the workouts, which totaled a little less than five hours of field time over three days. "There were a lot of people that were instrumental in getting everybody together. We have a lot of great leaders on our team. I've been here for a long time, so as a veteran on the team, not just a quarterback, there are a lot of guys who are really working hard. That's what we need."
