The Bruins shored up some organizational depth on the first day of free agency by announcing that they are bringing back both forward Trent Whitfield and goalie Anton Khudobin.
General manager Peter Chiarelli announced that the team signed both players to two-year, two-way contracts.
Whitfield, who served the 2010-11 season as the captain of the Providence Bruins, was originally drafted by the Bruins in 1996. He's spent the better part of his last two seasons in Providence, while playing in 16 games with the big club in 2009-10. The 34-year-old was named P-Bruins MVP, despite missing the beginning of the season with an injury.
Khudobin was brought on March 1 of last season and served as the organization's third goaltender behind Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask. After coming over from Minnesota, Khubodin spent the rest of the year in the AHL, posting a 2.40 goals against average and a .920 save percentage in 16 games with the Baby B's. Khubodin has brief NHL experience, appearing in four career games.
