The way each player handles his free time during the NBA lockout is up to them. For Michael Beasley, he’s taking it easy — and going green.
ESPN.com reports that Beasley was pulled over last Thursday for going 84 in a 65 mph zone. The officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car, and upon further inspection, discovered over a half-ounce of marijuana underneath the passenger seat. Beasley told the officer the bag belonged to a friend that he had just dropped off.
The possession charge is a petty misdemeanor that carries a $128 fine.
It’s not the first time Beasley has been in trouble for marijuana-related incidents. At the 2008 NBA Rookie Transition Program, Beasley, along with Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur, was suspected of smoking marijuana after a fire alarm was set off at 2 a.m. Originally, Beasley wasn’t fined or asked to leave the program, as was the fate for Arthur and Chalmers. However, less than a month later, Beasley was fined $50,000 by the NBA after Pat Riley made him confess that he snuck out once the police arrived.
Less than a year later, Beasley reportedly checked into a rehab facility after he posted pictures of himself to Twitter with what appeared to be marijuana in the background.
