Paul Pierce got his long-awaited ring with the Celtics in 2008. Now he wants a bracelet to go with it.
The C's captain entered the World Series of Poker Main Event on Day 1C and did well enough to stick around for another day of gambling. The winner of the WSOP gets the coveted gold bracelet.
ESPN.com poker columnist Andrew Feldman analyzed Pierce's performance at the table and reports that The Truth knows his cards.
"Since the start of the day, Pierce's chip counts have consistently been on the way up," writes Feldman. "He's been focused on the task at hand, quietly keeping to himself and offering a more serious demeanor at the table."
The 33-year-old all-star is not the only celebrity on hand for the Main Event. Comedians Brad Garrett and Ray Romano are also entered in the tournament, though Romano was sent home after the first day.
Though this is Pierce's first go-around on poker's biggest stage, Feldman says the Truth appears in control at the table, headphones and all.
"After spending some time watching him play, it's clear that he's comfortable," Feldman writes. "With headphones on, he acts with precision, but his general demeanor is intimidating and adds an element to his game that not many others possess."
Pierce had approximately $70,000 in chips late Saturday and will look to make more Monday.
