Reports: Albert Haynesworth Traded to Patriots for Fifth-Round Pick Bill Belichick remains the most unpredictable man in professional football.

After making relatively little noise in the free-agent frenzy this week, Belichick and the Patriots made a major splash early Thursday morning by acquiring Albert Haynesworth from the Washington Redskins.

ESPN's Adam Schefter originally reported the deal, and it was later confirmed by NFL Network's Albert Breer.

The Patriots are sending a 2013 fifth-round draft pick to Washington. Haynesworth is expected to make $5.4 million this season and $6.7 million in 2012, according to RotoWorld. A $20 million bonus in 2013 essentially means Haynesworth will be released before it kicks in.

Despite the low price for a two-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, Belichick and the Patriots are still taking a risk. Haynesworth was suspended by the Redskins last season for "conduct detrimental to the club." His two-year stint with the Redskins, as a whole, will be remembered as one of the worst free-agent signings in history, as his seven-year, $100 million contract brought just 6.5 sacks and 53 tackles in 20 games. He also had some very public disagreements with head coach Mike Shanahan.
