Andre Carter Says Relationship With Albert Haynesworth ‘Has Always Been Positive’

FOXBORO, Mass. — Just last season, Andre Carter said the Redskins had "moved forward" from the issues they had with Albert Haynesworth, who clashed with head coach Mike Shanahan and essentially refused to play for the team.

Apparently, Carter and Haynesworth never really had a personal beef with one another, but it didn't prevent Carter from calling out his teammate. Now that they've reunited in New England, Carter cleared up the notion that there could be a lingering issue.

"Our relationship has always been positive no matter what, whether it was here or there," Carter said Tuesday. "That's a thing of the past. This is now. We're Patriots."

Carter's original comments weren't even very controversial, but they have resurfaced this week due to Carter's decision to sign Monday with New England.

"I haven't experienced a player prioritizing his position on the field over working with the game," Carter told thehogs.net last year, according to the Boston Globe. "It's disappointing because Albert could fit in this scheme. All we can say is we wish him the best and we will see what happens in a month. He made his statement that he didn't want to play in this scheme, and we are not going to force him to play. He's a grown man. We have moved forward."

Carter said he saw Haynesworth as soon as he walked through the door at Gillette Stadium, and the pair are "excited to get things going" in New England. Carter called Haynesworth "a heck of a player" and praised his versatility, ability to clog up the middle of the line and a pension for helping edge rushers sack the quarterback.

"The Albert I know, to this present day, he's definitely a motivated person, as well as everybody else on this team," Carter said.
