FOXBORO, Mass. — The NFL's war of attrition begins immediately in training camp, and the Patriots have endured their round of injuries just like everyone else, including a rash of hamstring issues.

The injury bug will likely take an even bigger toll on the team after Thursday's preseason opener, so this is a good time to reset things and see where the Patriots are at with the injury bug. They've had 25 miss a total of 180 practices due to injury through Wednesday, and let's examine who has missed what.

(Contractual situations were not accounted for here, and players who are off the active roster were discounted. These are only players who have missed practices due to presumed injuries through the first 15 practices of training camp. As an example, cornerback Ras-I Dowling has missed 14 practices — seven due to his delayed signing, and seven with an injury — so he'll only count for seven absences in the list below.)

Safety Josh Barrett: 10 missed practices
Defensive lineman Ron Brace: 15
Cornerback Darius Butler: 1
Defensive lineman Marcus Cannon: 15
Offensive lineman Dan Connolly: 2
Defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick: 15
Cornerback Ras-I Dowling: 7
Defensive end Shaun Ellis: 3
Running back Kevin Faulk: 15
Tight end Rob Gronkowski: 1
Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth: 5
Tight end Aaron Hernandez: 4
Long snapper Matt Katula: 9
Running back Eric Kettani: 11
Left tackle Matt Light: 15
Defensive lineman Kyle Love: 1
Offensive lineman Chris Morris: 2
Defensive lineman Myron Pryor: 11
Safety James Sanders: 8
Defensive lineman Alex Silvestro: 1
Linebacker Brandon Spikes: 5
Wide receiver Brandon Tate: 5
Running back Shane Vereen: 6
Offensive lineman Ryan Wendell: 8
Defensive lineman Mike Wright: 5

(Like Faulk, Light's signing was announced midway through camp, but each player has been placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list. Because of that, we'll mark them down for all 15 since the Patriots presumably knew of the two injuries. Ellis, who is also on the PUP list, only counts for three absences because he was signed from another team.)
