Will Adrian Gonzalez Finish With a Batting Average Better Than .350? Adrian Gonzalez has long been known across baseball as one of the game's better hitters. When the first baseman was in San Diego he got plenty of credit for having a loud bat in a quiet lineup while playing half of his games in a ballpark that could silence bats in a heartbeat.

It only made sense that once Gonzalez made the move across the country to play at Fenway Park in the middle of arguably the best offense in baseball that his numbers would jump. While that hasn't necessarily been the case in terms of home runs, the first baseman has seen a significant jump in some other numbers, particularly batting average.

In fact, Gonzalez enters Friday's game with the Royals the owner of a .343 batting average. If the season were over, it would easily be Gonzalez's best career average, 39 points higher than his previous career high of .304 in 2006.

Gonzalez had actually been hitting as high as .357 just two and a half weeks ago. However, he has been battling a stiff neck as of late, something that Terry Francona says could be affecting his power. It may also be affecting his average.

Regardless, Gonzalez is all but assured of setting a new career high in batting average, and if he can get healthy, there's a good chance he ends the season with that average above .350.
