MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth will make his regular-season debut for the Patriots on Monday night in Miami, but linebacker Brandon Spikes, running back Shane Vereen and quarterback Ryan Mallett will not suit up.

The Patriots have also promoted tackle Thomas Welch from the practice squad. To make room on the roster, they released linebacker Jeff Tarpinian. If Tarpinian clears waivers, he could eventually return to the team or land on New England's injured reserve list.

The Patriots announced Sunday that right tackle Sebastian Vollmer (back), linebacker Jermaine Cunningham (groin), wide receiver Taylor Price (hamstring) and offensive lineman Ryan Wendell (calf) wouldn't play.

Spikes and Mallett were not on the week's injury report, but head coach Bill Belichick obviously didn't feel like it was necessary to carry three quarterbacks on the 46-man roster.

Vereen has been dealing with a hamstring injury over the last month. He was working out for a lengthy period of time before the game, but it appears that he's not fully ready to contribute in the regular season.

Defensive end Mark Anderson (knee), cornerback Kyle Arrington (hip), offensive lineman Dan Connolly (foot), linebacker Dane Fletcher (thumb), Haynesworth (illness), defensive lineman Myron Pryor (groin), running back Stevan Ridley (ankle), cornerback Leigh Bodden (hand) and wide receiver Julian Edelman (hand) will all play after they were listed on the week's final injury report.

Bodden was not wearing a cast over his right thumb during pregame warmups.
