Dan Gronkowski Says Patriots’ Playbook Nearly Identical to Josh McDaniels’ Broncos Offense

FOXBORO, Mass. — It sounds like Josh McDaniels took a whole lot of New England with him to Denver.

McDaniels, the former Patriots offensive coordinator who served as the Broncos head coach from 2009-10, kept his offensive system intact at each stop. Because of that, tight end Dan Gronkowski felt right at home when he opened the Patriots' playbook for the first time this week.

Gronkowski, who played for McDaniels in 2010, said the two playbooks are "very similar," and "a good portion of [the playbooks are] exactly the same."

So, when Bill Belichick said it's easier to sign players who have experience in the system, he definitely wasn't exaggerating.

"It's really helped me out," Gronkowski said Friday. "I could jump right in the huddle right now and just feel like I'm part of it already. I think everyone feels comfortable with me in there."
