FOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots safety Patrick Chung returned to practice Friday, and he was wearing a hard cast on his right hand that covered his thumb.

Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth missed his second session in a row. He was listed out with a back ailment Thursday.

Right tackle Sebastian Vollmer (back), tight end Aaron Hernandez (knee), defensive lineman Mike Wright (concussion) and tight end Dan Gronkowski (hamstring) also missed Friday's session, which was held in shorts and shells on the Gillette Stadium game field.

Vollmer, Hernandez and Wright missed all three practices of the week, which puts their availability for Sunday in serious doubt. Hernandez told NESN.com on Thursday that he's "feeling great."

Chung injured his hand in the third quarter against the Chargers and returned in the fourth quarter with a cast on his hand, which was similar to the one he wore Friday. Chung had surgery on the hand earlier in the week.

Friday was the Patriots' 39th practice since the start of training camp, not including regular-season walkthroughs. It was the 11th practice of the regular season and their ninth in shorts and shells. They haven't practiced in full pads since Sept. 8.
