Terry Francona Says Boston Is a 'Wonderful Place, But It's a Difficult Place to Be the Manager'
Terry Francona's tenure as the manager of the Red Sox came to an end on Friday. While it may be disappointing initially, the move may pay off for Francona down the road -- at least in terms of his health.
In his final news conference on Friday, Francona spoke about the toll that managing in Boston takes on someone. He had nothing but praise for a region that takes such a strong interest in the game, but he said that same thing makes the job such a grind.
"When I came here, I thought I was weathered," he said. "Now that I look back, I looked like a teenager. It's a tough life, especially when you care a lot, as we all do. There's no other way to get around it, and it does wear on you. That's just part of it. When it wears on you to the point that it affects you, it's time to move on."
