The Bruins will get their second shot against Carolina in less than a week when the Hurricanes come to the Garden on Tuesday night.
Boston dropped a 3-2 decision in Carolina on Wednesday, but are hoping to put together a better effort in the rematch.
"They had our number the other night and we didn't play our best game," Bruins forward Brad Marchand said. "We know we can put a better game together on the ice and we want to show them how good our team can be and hopefully get a little revenge."
Tim Thomas was in goal for that game, but it was Tuukka Rask who was the first netminder off the ice at the morning skate. That is traditionally the sign of who will start that night's game, but Rask's potential second start of the season won't be confirmed until the pregame warm-ups.
Adam McQuaid's status will also be decided just before game-time. McQuaid suffered a head and neck injury when he fell awkwardly into the boards in Carolina on Wednesday. He missed Saturday's game in Chicago but returned to practice Monday and participated in Tuesday's morning skate.
Center David Krejci (core injury) and defenseman Steven Kampfer (knee) also skated Tuesday morning, but both have been ruled out for Tuesday night's game.
"McQuaid will be a game-time decision," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "Krejci's not ready to go yet. He's obviously starting to skate with us, so he's inching closer to returning, but not [Tuesday night]. Kampfer is the same thing. He's coming around and skating better every day, so we've just got to wait and get the clearance on contact when it comes to him."
If McQuaid can't go, Matt Bartkowski will remain in the lineup on the blue line. He played Saturday in Chicago, but had just 5:32 of ice time as Julien shortened his bench in a close game that went to a shootout.
Cam Ward was the first goalie off the ice at the Hurricanes' skate and is expected to get the start in goal. He outdueled Thomas last Wednesday, making 26 saves in the win in Carolina.
The Hurricanes recalled forward Brett Sutter on Monday after Zac Dalpe suffered a lower-body injury.
Paul Devorski and Wes McCauley will be the referees, with Tony Sericolo and Tim Nowak working the lines.
