Even though Theo Epstein has been officially introduced as the Chicago Cubs' president of baseball operations, the compensation the Red Sox will receive for their former GM remains up in the air. MLB commissioner Bud Selig, who set a deadline for the two teams to work out a deal, expects to have to settle the issue.
"If I had to guess today, it'll be another thing that I have to deal with on November 1st," he said Friday, according to The Associated Press.
Nov. 1 is the deadline Selig set for the matter to be worked out.
"Hopefully they can get things done," Selig said last week. "I always encourage clubs to try to get things done between themselves. Somehow, the commissioner has enough things of controversy.
"They'll either get it done or they won't. If they don't, then I will."
Dealing with offseason decisions regarding extending the use of video reviews by umpires, the financial situations of the Dodgers and Mets and the idea of banning alcohol in clubhouses, Selig admits that there's a lot on his plate.
