The current owners of the cornfields in Dyersville, Iowa, where the baseball film Field of Dreams took place, announced Sunday that they are selling the property, according to ESPN.com.
Don and Becky Lansing have not disclosed the amount of the purchase, but they said that the fields are now property of Go the Distance Baseball LLC, which will turn the land into a baseball and softball complex and keep the site's tradition of baseball alive.
The property first went on the market in May 2010 for $5.4 million. Since the release of Field of Dreams in 1989, the fields in Dyersville have been a tourist hotspot. Mike and Denise Stillman, owners of Go the Distance Baseball LLC, understand the importance the property has to the spirit of baseball.
"We understand the impact that demographics, market trends and the economy will have on baseball and those who love the game in the next decade," Denise Stillman said. "We are thrilled to continue the Field of Dreams legacy."
Currently in the works is a design for what the Stillmans have named "All-Star Ballpark Heaven," which will include fields for baseball and softball tournaments, as well as an indoor training facility.
