Joe Thornton Calls Rangers 'Softest Team' Sharks Played on Road Trip After 5-2 Loss in New YorkThe San Jose Sharks wrapped up a six-game road trip on Monday night in New York. To their credit, they won five of those six games, with the lone loss coming to the Rangers on Monday at Madison Square Garden.

So despite the setback on Monday night, it would probably be pretty safe to assume that the Sharks were feeling pretty good about themselves at the conclusion of the early-season trip out east.

Joe Thornton's postgame comments sure sounded like someone who was feeling pretty confident after the Rangers blew out the Sharks 5-2 on Halloween night.

"They were probably the softest team we played on trip," Thornton said after the game, according to CBSSports.com. "We should have had these two points."

For what it's worth, Thornton had an assist on Monday night in New York, and that capped a road trip in which Jumbo Joe contributed three goals and five assists.

As ESPN.com's Katie Strang reported, Rangers coach John Tortorella wasn't ready to get into a war of words with Thornton when he was told about the comments after the game.

"Wonderful," was the coach's response to Thornton's assessment.

The two teams don't meet again this year.
