Someone on the Law and Order: SVU staff must be a hockey fan.

How else would you explain a random shout-out to Buffalo Sabres winger and former Boston College standout Nathan Gerbe?

In a recent episode, a character explains to detectives that a missing baby was named after Gerbe, adding that “he leads the Sabres in penalty minutes.”

It doesn’t appear that the detectives on “SVU” are huge hockey fans, though. For one, Gerbe has never been close to the team-lead in penalty minutes and isn’t really seem the kind of guy to scrap, being 5-foot-5 and all. Maybe that’s a clue… is the lady lying? Did she kidnap baby Nathan?

And judging from the look on his face, we’re guessing that Ice-T had never heard of Gerbe before they taped that scene. Then again, we might not be giving his acting skills enough credit.
