Ray Allen has more time on his hands than usual because of the NBA lockout. As a result, he's frequently hitting the links.
Allen was among those who participated in the pro-am portion of the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic in Florida last week.
"I think it keeps me from going crazy," Allen said of golf, according to the Orland Sentinel. "A lot of guys are getting bored."
Allen reportedly posted a net 3-under 69 at the tournament.
Also in attendance at the Florida tourney were former Red Sox players Johnny Damon and Heathcliff Slocumb, Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis and Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young, among others, The Boston Globe reports.
When Allen and Rivers saw each other, they exchanged hellos, but the conversation ended there, according to the Orlando Sentinel. NBA owners have threatened heavy fines against any team employees who fraternize with players during the lockout.
"At some point, we'll be able to talk again. I'm not going to worry about it," said Rivers, who reportedly admitted that it's been difficult to turn a cold shoulder to his own players.
Allen and Rivers are both optimistic that there will be NBA games played this year, though.
"It's been a trying process, but a process nonetheless." Allen told NECN. "It will be over soon. You sit back and be ready."
