Patriots Release Cornerback Leigh BoddenThe Patriots aren't exactly deep in their defensive backfield, but they're reportedly choosing to thin out the depth chart even more.

The team released cornerback Leigh Bodden on Friday. The news was originally reported by Pro Football Talk. NESN.com Patriots reporter Jeff Howe confirmed the release shortly thereafter, citing multiple league sources.

Bodden, 30, signed a four-year deal with New England prior to the 2010 season. He missed the entirety of the 2010 campaign due to injury. This season, he's played in five games, recording 13 tackles and four passes defensed.

In 2009, he had five interceptions for the Patriots, including three in one game against the Jets.

Head coach Bill Belichick, when asked about the report on Friday, said the team had no announcements.

If the move is indeed true, that Patriots have just Devin McCourty, Ras-I Dowlilng, Kyle Arrington and Antwaun Molden at cornerback.
