Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis, the son of the late Al Davis, has been seeking advice from former coach John Madden, as well as former personnel executives Ron Wolf and Ken Herock, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Due to NFL rules, Davis cannot speak to or hire potential general manager candidates during the season. That has led him to speaking with Madden, Wolf and Herock, all of whom have ties to the organization.
Prior to his death, Al Davis had mentioned bringing Madden back to the organization to help his son run the team. However, Madden told The New York Times last week that conversation never happened.
Madden last spoke to Davis during the Raiders-Patriots game on Oct. 2. He said Davis was "family."
"He was my best friend," said Madden. "If I had one call to make, if I needed anything, the call would be to Al Davis. I lost the one-call guy, the mentor, the father, the best friend."
Wolf and Herock both spent several seasons with Raiders involved with personnel decisions.
