Since Terry Francona and the Red Sox parted ways last Friday, rumors have run rampant regarding the future of general manager Theo Epstein. Despite a week's worth of gossip, it looks like the 37-year-old will likely be staying put.

"People around the game getting idea that, unless something changes, [T]heo will stay with [Red Sox]," tweeted highly connected Sports Illustrated reporter Jon Heyman.

Earlier on Friday, Red Sox principal owner John Henry and team president and CEO Larry Lucchino refused to directly address reports that said the Cubs had contacted Boston regarding Epstein. As guests on WEEI's Dennis and Callahan Show, Henry did note that Epstein won't be Boston's GM "forever," but he did express confidence in him.

"I think that Theo will [work more than 10 years for the Red Sox]," Henry said. "He's the guy now, he's been the guy, we've had tremendous success. We fell apart at the end of the season. As Larry expressed, we're upset about it. No fan could be more upset than I am about the result this year. But he's done a tremendous job for us over the last [nine] years."
