FOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots tackle Sebastian Vollmer practiced Wednesday for the first time since Sept. 16.

It was just the fourth time Vollmer had practiced in the regular season. He had missed 14 of 18 regular-season sessions with a back injury, including the last nine before returning Wednesday. He has also missed four of the Patriots' five games this season.

Running back Danny Woodhead and wide receiver Julian Edelman also returned after missing all of last week with ankle injuries.

Linebacker Jerod Mayo (knee), defensive lineman Mike Wright (concussion) and safety Josh Barrett (hamstring, thumb) missed Wednesday's practice. It was Barrett's first absence of the regular season, though he didn't play Sunday against the Jets.

Mayo injured his knee in Week 4 against the Raiders and hasn't practiced since. He could be out for four to six weeks, according to reports.

Wright returned to practice last Thursday and Friday after missing 10 practices.

The Patriots practiced in shorts and shells for the 14th time in the regular season.
